Mervyn Peake's Alice illustrations are currently on display in the glass cabinets, seen on the right in this photograph. With over half a million visitors a year, this magnificent gallery, on the mezzanine floor of the British Library, provides a wonderful opportunity to view the originals. Both the library and the gallery, are free to the public.

Jeff Riggenbach on Mervyn Peake

Jeff Riggenbach, an American journalist and editor, writes with sustained enthusiasm about the Titus Trilogy describing Mervyn Peake as 'the author of one of the most notable individualist novels of the 20th century. In his fulsome precis of the novels, he suggests that, 'it is high time that Americans were brought up to speed'(with the books).

Guernsey Literary Festival

Apart from Mervyn Peake's connection with the Channel Islands, Sark in particular; Clare, his daughter was born on the island and will be speaking about her new book, Under a Canvas Sky, to be published by Constable & Robinson in May 2011. I will be giving a centenary talk on my father, and the Peake on Sark exhibition taking place at Guernsey's nearby Museum and Art Gallery, will add to Peake interest at Guernsey's First Literary Festival.
With impeccable timing, Bloomsbury Publishing have just brought out a new paperback edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass. The classic is now available from Blackwell's bookshop, incorporated into the foyer of the Wellcome Trust HQ, at 183 Euston Road, London, NW1 2BE

Large banners advertise their current exhibition, High Society, while Mervyn Peake's caterpillar hangs in draped technicolor glory in the street outside. It will be seen until February next year by innumerable motorists and passers-by as they make their way along this very busy central London thoroughfare.
