When the BBC did a mini-series, I was almost tempted to watch it but my preference has always been to read first and enjoy someone else's visual interpretation after. So, it is a joy. I have just left Stephen Donaldson's universe of the Gap Series of novels and Peake's world is altogether more claustrophobic that outer space, and no less enjoyable for all that. I was thrilled to read The Frivolous Cake, an absolute joy for someone brought up on McGonagall. Highly recommended to those who feast on novel language and deep description.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
