Self-portraits

After some time in store the 1932 self-portrait (top) currently on loan to the National Portrait Gallery in London will again be on show very shortly. Rotation has meant that it has not been able to be seen for sometime.

The 1933 self-portrait (bottom) produced during the time Mervyn Peake lived on Sark in the Channel Islands is not on show currently but is able to be viewed at the Guernsey Museum and Art Gallery by giving adequate notice.

An article in The Lady Magazine

An article will appear in The Lady magazine on the 11th December. Titled Mervyn Peake's World it will trace the way in which Mervyn Peake was influenced by events in his childhood, which are then passed on down through the generations by way of various talents.

The article ends by quoting from the final page of Gormenghast in which the countess addresses her son Titus who is preparing to leave his castle home.

'There is nowhere else, you will only tread a circle Titus Groan. There's not a road, not a track, but it will lead you home. For everything comes to Gormenghast'.
