Mervyn Peake in Switzerland

On 3rd October 2009, the most comprehensive exhibition of the illustrations of Mervyn Peake ever put together, will open at the world-renowned centre for the art of the imagination, La Maison d'Ailleurs in Switzerland. Situated at the very centre of the ancient town of Yverdon-les-Bains on the banks of Lac Neuchatel, the museum is the ideal location for displaying the 250 or so works.

Covering three floors of the impressive building, there will be ample space surrounding each individual drawing. Whether Treasure Island, Alice in Wonderland, Grimm's Household Tales or The Hunting of the Snark, every illustration will inhabit its own generous space.

A magnificent, stylishly-produced, bi-lingual catalogue, will accompany the show, and a looped film on the life and work of the artist will be available for the visitor to view as they walk around. The result of years of planning, Lignes de Fuite, as the exhibition is called, will be a required destination for anyone interested in the subject. The show will run until February 2010.
