Regular readers of this blog will be familiar with the energy and detail which Sebastian used to keep us up-to-date with any news of his father's work, particularly during the centenary year, 2011. His sudden death has been a great shock to his friends and family but the promotion of his father's work will continue under the guidance of his brother and sister, Fabian and Clare. I worked with Sebastian on the blog and will continue to add details of events and new publications as well as any other news when it becomes available. Alison Eldred

I am saddened by this news of an old friend and a tireless advocate for the works of Mervyn Peake and Maeve Gilmore.
Terrible, unexpected news. He did his parents proud. My sympathies to his family.
So sad to here the sudden unexpected news of Sebastian's passing. As Brian Sibley has said he was a great advocate of his fathers work.

Completely gutted by this - and I'd only logged in to inform him of a piece of related pastiche I'd written, soon to be published. Like Karen, I feel he (with Fabian and Clare) kept his father's name alive during that crucial 100th anniversary, just last year. I only wonder if the effort it entailed eventually proved too much. A lovely guy.
What a shock when I heard my friend Sebastian had passed away so suddenly. I had just found a picture of him and my wife Ann together admiring some fine wines in 1977. So sad to loose him! Hellmuth Berendt and family
This is sad, shocking and terrible news. He was a gentleman, a genuine and lovely guy. I'm pround to have met him. My sincere sympathies to his family and friends.
I was sorry to hear of Sebastian's sudden passing from Rosanne Guille. I had hoped to attend his funeral today but I have not been able to. I only got back in contact with Sebastian last November after an absence of 50+ years. I used to play with Sebastian and Fabian at Le Chalet in Sark as children. I kept saying that I would meet up with him...and now it is too late. I would like to meet up with Fabian at some time if possble. My sincere sympathies to his family.

Shocked and saddened to hear of Sebastian's death. He was a good and sensitive, man. A proper gent. And so full of stories. When it came to wine, he was a magician, telepathic about both what you would like and what you might be able to afford!
Deepest condolences to all the family. He will be very much missed.

What a GREAT loss to the world! My condolences to the family. He played an important part in Peake Preservation but also had a listening ear for the faces in the crowd....

A wonderful advocate for his parents' work, he also achieved so much in his own right from wine through public speaking and enabling amazing events to occur. I and many will miss him. Sincere sympathies to his family and friends.
After the sadness of the news that Sebastian had passed on, I couldn't help a small smile. We'll only know ourselves when our time comes, but there is more than a passing chance that he is now sitting with his parents again on a beach on Sark. He was a gentle man.
Today my copy of 'The Parkinson' dropped on the mat and I learned of the untimely death of Sebastian Peake. For 11 years I've had Parkinson's, and my ability to cope with it has in no small measure been due to his creation of the Mervyn Peake Awards. I first came across them in 2006, and have entered every year since then. In 2007, I won the Photography class, and so have a letter from Sebastian and the book 'Mervyn Peake - the Man and his Art' which I bought with some of the prize money. During these 6years I have come to know more about Mervyn Peake and about his wife and children, and his art. The words courage and commitment come to mind when I think of them. Mervyn Peake has been kept alive by the dedication of Sebastian, Fabian and Clare, and now I know Sebastian Peake will live on in the hearts of all those, with or without Parkinson's who have been inspired to overcome difficulties and be creative. I will treasure my memories, and send my sincere best wishes, thanks and sympathy to all his family.
So very sad to stumble across this news. I was lucky enough to know Sebastian briefy when I was involved in running the Mervyn Peake Society many years ago and he was a lovely, lovely man. Best wishes and sympathies to his family.

I met Sebastian a few times due to my interest in his fathers work. Wish he hadn't left so early. I offer my condolences and love to the Peake family.
It had been some time since I had been to this site, I had no idea until now of Sebastian's death, almost a year later.
I met Sebastian once in Swansea, a few years ago, at a lecture he gave on his father. There were many brilliant, coloured slides of his work and Sebastian brought to life the man and his imagination through a lively talk. I was a little shy of approaching him but his genial manner soon did away with any apprehensions. I told him of how Titus Alone actually remained my favourite of his books, it being utterly unlike anything out there and retaining a fierce, dreamlike power of its own. I bought a copy of The Man and His Art, which he signed, and then he bought me a glass of excellent red wine.
It was a magical night and I can only take joy in knowing that so many around the country also enjoyed Sebastian's warmth, humour and intelligence in promoting his father's work. I also learnt a little about wine, too!
I know he will be missed, but I know also that many will remember him as having enriched their lives.
My belated condolences to the Peake family and his friends.

Howard & Alison Johnson . Just farmers on the Isle of Wight. Have just learnt of Sebastians passing. For many years he stayed with us as a B&B guest .We so enjoyed his company & I so wish we had talked more. Sympathies to his family
