From 28th November until Saturday 5th January 2008 an exhibition at the Chris Beetles Gallery; 8 -10 Ryder Street, London SW1Y 6QB is showing several drawings by Mervyn Peake, with his illustrations to Bleak House prominently displayed in this impressive, beautifully laid-out show. This is image is of Mr Snagsby from Bleak House.

'The Illustrators' provides the opportunity to view Mervyn Peake's unique take on characters from Charles Dickens' 'Bleak House' - parallels between the artist and the great novelist are extremely marked. Peake has vividly captured this cast of grotesques in a way that Dickens would surely have approved wholeheartedly
