Hello there. I wanted to say hello as I will be movement directing Gormenghast - an adapted script from the Constable play - at Italia Conti Drama School this Spring/Summer - opening at the Edinburgh Festival. As a movement person, I have also had the good fortune to attend Skinner Releasing Classes run by Florence Peake! Small world it can be.

Great Website, really informative and interesting.

Best wishes

Mervyn Peake was a genius. He had an ability I have never encountered by any other author; to paint a scene with devastating detail as only an artist could. I hold him in high regard as I do Dickens.

He is both an influence and a depression to me. He is the writer I'd most want to be and the one I know I have not the talent or imagination to be.

It is a sad thing that he never got to know just how greatly he is admired by so many people all over the world, and not simply a cult following; but rather discerning appreciators of true literature.

Hi, I first read Gormenghast nearly fifty years ago... it was breathtaking and challenging reading for a fifteen year old boy, but I loved it and went to read the whole trilogy. Since then I have read them all many times ... each read revealing even deeper layers.
What a great writer your father was... genius no less.
I have just obtained the audio book versions and will soon be immersed in his amazing fantasy once again.
long live MERVYN PEAKE may his books always thrill the future generations. Steve Maher

I am looking to adapt Letters From A Lost Uncle into a puppet show and would like to know how best to attain the rights. I contacted Metuen in April but still haven't heard a thing. Any suggestions?

Mervyn Peake is one of my favourite authors and the Gormenghast Trilogy one of my best loved books. Yesterday, I had the occasion to be in Burpham and visited his grave along with many of his closest family; something I have wanted to do for a long time. It's a lovely spot and a good place to lay one's head for eternity.

I think Titus groan is incredibly underrated and as I cannot find a better example of descriptive writing. Gormenghast and the glassblowers won your father a prize but the name escapes me. In particular I love the frivolous cake and one other passage which I think are particularly brilliant

I first became of Mervyn Peake one wet Saturday in Broadstairs,on holiday with my parents and sister - we were about 6 and 8 years old at the time - and Dad bought us a copy of Treasure Island to keep us amused.
I was mesmerized by the illustrations, my sister still says she's terrified of them some 70 years later.
Some twenty years after that I used to perform in various folk clubs in Sheffield, and struck up a relationship with Al Stewart; one of his compositions was "Room of Roots" which was how I connected to Gormenghast!
It was after searching out more information about Mervyn that I cottoned on to the origin of the incredible illustrations that had created such an impression on my sister and me.
